Fall Into God’s Hands

The fall is approaching—the leaves are beginning their gentle descent to the ground, painting our neighborhoods in hues of amber, crimson, and gold. Along with this beauty comes the busyness: back-to-school routines, pumpkin carving, apple cider, football games, and family get-togethers.

This season is rich with joy, yet it also brings the challenges of balancing work, managing schedules, preparing for holidays, and sometimes navigating difficult family dynamics.

In the middle of it all, there’s a steady reminder: Jesus carries us. No matter the mountains we climb or the valleys we walk through, we are held firmly in the palm of His hand. That truth never shifts, even when everything else around us is changing.

Fall itself is such a picture of that truth. Think about the trees—their leaves don’t cling forever. Instead, they release, they let go, they change. It’s a God-ordained rhythm. The transformation in the colors and the falling away reminds us that sometimes, in order to move into the next season, we have to release what no longer serves us.

We have to trust Him with the letting go.

Just this week, I looked at my son Jonah—my second born—and in a split second he looked more like a little boy than the toddler I was holding not so long ago. The truth is, the change didn’t happen overnight. It has been happening in a thousand small moments, day after day. But it struck me in that moment: if I’m clinging too tightly to what was, I risk missing the beauty of what is.

And isn’t that the invitation of this season?

To pause.
To notice.
To let go where God is calling us to loosen our grip, so that our hands are free to hold onto the new beauty He’s placing before us.

I pray that as we step into this fall season, each of us will take time to reflect on the things we may need to release—old habits, heavy expectations, maybe even fears—so that we can receive something far greater. The beauty of new friendships. The joy of sipping apple cider while reading a good book. The grace to see our messy homes not as failures, but as spaces filled with little feet running, little hands creating, and imaginations blooming.

Fall is not just about endings—it’s about becoming. May we not miss the holy in the ordinary, or the presence of God in the changing of seasons. May we, with open hands and surrendered hearts, fall into His hands and trust that He is writing a beautiful story through it all.

“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” – Deuteronomy 33:27

Can I pray for you?

Heavenly Father,

As we enter this fall season, we thank You for the beauty of change that surrounds us. Just as the leaves let go, teach us to release the things You are calling us to surrender. Give us eyes to see the small, holy moments in our days and hearts that rest in Your presence. Help us to trust that Your hands are strong enough to hold us and gentle enough to guide us. May we embrace this season with gratitude, wonder, and faith.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
